Ouch

I think I’m going to have a particularly rough start to the school year. Not only did I not even get close to finishing my summer reading assignments, but I have just now accidentally cut my thumb in a way that will stop me from comfortably holding a pencil, playing guitar and video games, and snapping. I also need to wake up at 6:00 AM tomorrow morning so that I can catch the bus to school. I’m sure I’ll be fine but these are some discouraging signs. (The summer reading thing was basically just me being lazy all summer though.)

Thanks for reading this short post which will act as a precursor for tomorrow’s Free Lunch.

Cya later!

Free Lunch #68

Hello there you kindly cooks, it’s time for another Free Lunch! If you don’t know what Free Lunch is, I just try to type for five minutes without stopping about whatever I want to. These typically come out every Tuesday and Friday.

Starting at 9:50.

Since the last time I made a Free Lunch, I haven’t really done enough to warrant a new post. I got the strings fixed on my Electric Guitar and a haircut. Now that my strings are fixed, I can finally play solos that use the high E string. I haven’t made very much progress on any of the songs I’m learning/composing since Tuesday, but I have started practicing the Trumpet vigorously. I have band camp next week and I haven’t really been practicing every day over the summer. I’d say I’ve practiced about 35% of the days this summer, and a lot of that shouldn’t really even be counted as practice. Mostly I’ve just been playing Fly Me to The Moon, Megalovania, and doing a bunch of scales to try and hit new high notes. My record right now is High D, which you can see below.

I’ve made a little bit of progress in Earthbound, I’m past Saturn Valley and starting up the next arc of my journey. Enter the Gungeon had a huge update so I started playing it again for the first time in a few months. The new content is definitely enough to warrant picking it up. On the Nintendo Switch eShop it’s 50% off right now, and I’d say it’s totally worth it.

That’s all the time I have for today, thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this post.

See you next post! (Retiring the Bai?)

Free Lunch #65

Hello there you cardboard cats. I wish I could give you a good reason for why I haven’t been posting, but all I can tell you is that I was burned out and lacked the motivation. I’m posting now because a song reminded me of sitting on the bus, listening to piano music and writing Free Lunch. So that’s what I’m doing now. If you don’t know what Free Lunch is, I just type for five minutes about whatever I feel like writing about.

Starting at 4:52.

I’d like to start off by apologizing for not posting all the neat stuff we had planned for this year or posting at all. However, in the mean time a lot has happened. I’ve gotten noticeably better at all of my instruments except Piano, which is difficult to find the time to practice for. Tomorrow I have a Trumpet audition that determines my placement at my high school next year. I’m hoping for Wind Ensemble, but that’s kind of a long shot. The piece I’m playing is pretty difficult, but I’ve got all my scales down. I’m really hoping the sightreading parts aren’t too trying.

I’ve been playing a lot of Super Smash Bros recently on my 2DS with my friends. I’m about second best in the group, and I’m maining Sonic and Toon Link. I’m also a bit into Earthbound, and I’m learning Smiles and Tears on the Guitar.

That’s all the writing I have time for, so thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this post! And thanks to Victoria and mr. bubbles for continuing to post in my absence. And thanks to you readers for sticking around!

Free Lunch #62

Hello there you chilling cartridges! If you don’t know what a Free Lunch is, I just get on either my laptop or phone and type for five minutes without stopping. It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted, and regardless of how much has happened since then, in usual fashion I’m still probably run out of things to say.

Starting at 7:45.

Today I had my first job interview, and I think I have a good chance of getting the job. I’m trying out for the supermarket that my step-dad works for, so unless I royally screw up on the first day, I’ll probably be able to adapt and integrate it into my lifestyle. I’ll be working on Bagging, so I need to practice my social skills a bit before I start, as I am expected to interact with every customer near me.

In musical news, I really haven’t done much composing recently. I’m learning Great Fairy Fountain on Guitar, and practicing Megalovania for Trumpet (as usual), but I seem to have left the Piano behind. I’m going to try to start playing it again every day, because the reason I’m not playing as much is less of me not wanting to, and more of me forgetting about it. I’ve screwed around with some lyrics as well, but I haven’t really found anything that strikes a chord with me (PUN INTENDED) recently. Wouldn’t it be a disappointing career if I released one emo song and then never wrote again? I think it would be, so I’m making an effort to try and write something every day, even if it’s short or bad. If I don’t practice writing, I’ll never improve.

I’m out of time for today, so thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this post! I’m going to attempt posting regularly again, I’m really sorry about Throwback Week not happening on time. Consider it rescheduled, for a surprise date!

Free Lunch #55

Hello there you gigabits. It’s Friday, so that means it’s time for another Free Lunch! If you don’t know what that is, I just get on either my laptop or phone, try to write for five minutes without taking any breaks, and attempt to write a legible post.  Starting at 10:11.

Let’s do this in chronological order, but with my apology for not posting first. I’m sorry for not posting this week, I really was flooded with school work that I was supposed to have finished by today. Luckily, I finished all of it, but because I was working on the work at home, I didn’t have time to write any posts over the course of the week. I also haven’t finished tomorrow’s book review yet, but my plan is to finish writing it at the Library tomorrow.

I’ve been trying to write a Guitar solo for a few weeks in my off-time as well, and I’m having some trouble with the solo doing cool solo things but then coherently returning to the original melody. I was also thinking I could make some cool kinda jazz piano-guitar combo later? Another cool music thing coming soon; I’m going to try and release my Having Lived cover from the game To The Moon on the day its sequel comes out. Hopefully, I do the song justice.

I also just watched the first three episodes of Gravity Falls, because it’s been recommended to me by so many friends. Watching it, I can already tell the collaboration with Rick and Morty in Season 4 is going to be awesome. If there isn’t a collab after all that hinting in the 4th season teaser I’m really going to be disappointed.

That’s about all I have left to say for right now, so I’m just going to write this filler sentence as long as possible until I get to 10:16.

Thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this post!

Free Lunch #54

Hello there you rainbow monkeys. Today is Tuesday which means it’s time for another Free Lunch. If you don’t know what that is, I just get on either my phone or laptop and type for 5 minutes legibly without stopping.  I’m on my laptop this time so it will probably be a little bit longer than last time.

Starting at 9:07.

In the last few days I haven’t really been working on much, save an interesting intro I made for Megalovania and a guitar riff. I also realized that I need to buckle down and finish learning Having Lived if I want to be able to release it the day that Finding Paradise comes out. It’s supposed to be near the end of the year, so I have quite a bit of time, but all the time in the world makes no difference if I don’t practice. I’m going to ask my talented friend to help me with it tomorrow morning.

If you didn’t know, a remix of a song I made came out yesterday and you can listen to it here, thanks in advance.

Right now I’m listening to a CD titled Romantic Symphonies. I got it at Goodwill and it’s a pretty good soundtrack for studying and writing stuff.

In other news, I’m really excited because it seems like I’m going to get a Nintendo Switch for Christmas from the same friend who I’m going to request help from tomorrow. This is big because Nintendo Switches are super cool and I’ll get to play Super Mario Odyssey.

Be on the lookout for a post by Jamie in the next few days, a review of Thor Ragnarok. I don’t really have much else to say and I still have a whole minute left to type. I was reading an interesting limerick on Twitter earlier today, I’ll link it here so you can read it and I don’t have to keep writing.

Thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this Free Lunch, I’ll see you in the next one!

Free Lunch #53

Hello there you laptop computers. This is ironic because this Free Lunch is going to be written via my phone. I’m sorry this is coming out so ridiculously late at night, I was reading. If you don’t know how Free Lunch works then ask in the comments.

Starting at 11:39.

Today I finished two books. One was Twerp, which I had been reading for about a week now and has a book review coming up sometime soon, and the other was I’ll Give You The Sun which was loaned to me by Maz.

IGYTS was a pretty long read (371 pages) compared to a lot of the other stuff i’ve been reading lately, but I was able to zip through it because I got hooked. If I look back, I had the book for about 7 hours before I finished it, which isn’t that crazy then. It just becomes about 50 pages an hour, which isn’t that much.

Recently I have also been dabbling some more in writing guitar riffs, and I have a pretty cool one that i’ll probably post sooner or later.

I don’t really have that much more to talk about, so i’ll just stall for time by typing this long worthless sentence out. Do any of these sentences really have worth regardless of whether they are a filler or not? If you think about it, all i’m doing is talking into a void and you guys miraculously are reading it and some of you like this repetitive stuff I guess. It’s interesting.

My time is up, thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this short post.

Sorry there wasn’t a movie poster for this one 😦

Free Lunch #49 (nearly)

Hello there you mellow fellows! I would like to go ahead and apologize for my extended absence from the blog, if I hadn’t have skipped all that time we already would have hit Free Lunch #50. However, I forgot the Friday and Saturday posts and we end up here. Anyways, here’s the usual spiel. It’s Tuesday which means it’s time for another Free Lunch! If you don’t know what that is, I just type for 5 minutes on either my laptop or phone. This time it’s on my laptop because I don’t want to use the data on my phone.

Starting at 5:41.

I’m happy to tell you that a new piano song will come out this Friday for the 50th Free Lunch! This is the song i’ve been working on for a while. In other news, while I was gone I got an amp for my Guitar from my dad and went to see Blade Runner 2049 with him. The amp works great and i’m glad now that I can make an electric guitar sound with my electric guitar. I really liked Blade Runner 2049. I had read online before watching the movie that it was slow, but I didn’t think so at all after watching it. The pacing was done well in my opinion, and the action was great too. Like Legendary randomness said in their review, all the shots were cinematic and the soundtrack was fantastic. The jarring 80’s synths really help to immerse you in the film.

The next post for Top Shelf Book Reviews will be Things Not Seen by Andrew Clements, which will come out this Saturday. I also have a poll for you here, just in case this idea is relevant yet.

I don’t have much time left, so i’ll leave you with this. I tried to play Chopin’s Winter Wind (intro of course) on cups, but it was really out of tune and sounded bad. I uploaded it anyways though, and you can now watch it!

Thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this post!

If you liked this post, listen to this storm ambiance while reading this series!

Free Lunch

Free Lunch #47 (almost there edition)

Hello there you Pirates of the Pancreas. Today it’s Tuesday which means it’s time for a Free Lunch! If you don’t know what that means, I just type for five minutes on either my laptop or phone trying not to stop.

Starting at 7:08.

The reason there hasn’t been as many good posts recently is because i’ve been pretty swamped in schoolwork. It’s mostly stuff that I should have already finished, but didn’t because I was being lazy. That’s all come back to bite me now as everything is due on Thursday, the last day before fall break. I wouldn’t expect another post from me until Friday for the Free Lunch, sorry.

Anyways on to the usual discussion topics, recently i’ve been working on a couple different ideas for piano songs that could branch off into their own full song. Most of them are about thirty seconds long and are kind of boring, but i’m sure i’ll find one that interests me. On Guitar, i’m practicing my Pentatonic Blues Scale and it’s pretty fun. I think i’m going to try and make my own solo later using that, but not anytime soon. In Trumpet news, in class we have just been working on making sure that we are able to correctly play stuff and comprehend rhythms, so we aren’t practicing any pieces, which is disappointing. I am still working on Megalovania for the Trumpet though, and it’s still a huge challenge… but one day I will conquer it.

I don’t really have much else to say to you, except I started watching a new show today indicated by the Hello There You.

Thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this kind of boring post. I promise that this Saturday you’ve got a pretty good book review coming, so hold on for that!

Free Lunch #44

Hello there you magical moons. It’s a Friday so that means it’s time for another Free Lunch! If you don’t know what Free Lunch is, I just get either my laptop or phone and type for 5 minutes. I’m on my laptop today.

I could probably just copy and paste the intro for every Free Lunch and no one would notice if I changed the Hello there you’s.

Starting at 8:08.

Today my friend at school lent me his Guitar amp so I could practice over the weekend, and i’ve already accidentally cut my finger on a string while playing my Electric expeditiously. Recently i’ve also been thinking of looking into a Bass Guitar, as they seem like they would be a lot of fun to play. I’ve also started writing another song tonight, which looks to me like a love song, which is odd because i’m 100% sure i’m not in love right now. Confusing.

On Piano, i’m still working out the bugs on the song that i’ve been working on for a few months now. The aforementioned song will now be known as Untitled Piano #1 until I give it a name.

In other news, I was going to make cookies tonight but we don’t have any eggs, which I found out halfway through spraying the pan…

In other, other news, the new series got a name change, because RAREBOTS sounded like a kids toy. See here to find out what it’s named now! It also comes out tomorrow, so be excited everybody! I know that book reviews really aren’t a super exciting thing, but I hyped it up enough that hopefully you all are sort of looking forward to it.

My time is up for now, and only looking back to I realize that I really did terrible for having typed on a computer the entire Free Lunch. Oh well, i’ll try harder next time…

Oh, and I forgot to tell you all about this during the Free Lunch, but earlier this week my finger got stabbed by a mechanical pencil and blood was involved. Look forward to a dramatic retelling of the event this Sunday, only on Rileys Backpack!

Thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this semi-boring post.
