Free Lunch #69

Hello there you potential pots. Today is Tuesday, which means there’s like a 50% chance of a Free Lunch coming out. Lucky for you, today one’s coming out! If you don’t know what Free Lunch is, I basically just type on my computer or phone for five minutes about whatever is happening in my life, or anything I feel like typing about.

I have officially finished a whole week of high school, and so far it’s been mostly positive. The worst things about the new school year have just been getting lost on the way to classes (my school is like a maze), and being in awkward situations around people I don’t know. However, I think all of my classes will be pretty challenging and fun, even if they might get tedious later on. My favorite part of being in high school has been the freedom. At the end of the day, we aren’t shepherded into rooms to wait to be dismissed or even released over the intercom. Once it’s 3:00, we are just free to leave the building. There are no announcements telling us to leave or anything, the teacher will just say that class is over, and then we walk out of school.

I am 6th chair Trumpet out of 11 right now, which I think is higher than I should be. I’m not really going to complain about it, but I’m pretty sure some of the people behind me are better than I am. The schedules are pretty weird as well, we have double period days where classes are an hour and a half long, which is a really long time to be sitting and paying attention in my opinion.

The second unnamed piano piece that I’ve been working on for about 8 months is nearly finished, and I’m trying to think of some good names for it. An idea that I have is “Gymnopédie No. 4” because it draws so heavily from the original Gymnopédies.

Thanks for reading all the way down to the very bottom of this post, I’ll see you in the next one!

Free Lunch #68

Hello there you kindly cooks, it’s time for another Free Lunch! If you don’t know what Free Lunch is, I just try to type for five minutes without stopping about whatever I want to. These typically come out every Tuesday and Friday.

Starting at 9:50.

Since the last time I made a Free Lunch, I haven’t really done enough to warrant a new post. I got the strings fixed on my Electric Guitar and a haircut. Now that my strings are fixed, I can finally play solos that use the high E string. I haven’t made very much progress on any of the songs I’m learning/composing since Tuesday, but I have started practicing the Trumpet vigorously. I have band camp next week and I haven’t really been practicing every day over the summer. I’d say I’ve practiced about 35% of the days this summer, and a lot of that shouldn’t really even be counted as practice. Mostly I’ve just been playing Fly Me to The Moon, Megalovania, and doing a bunch of scales to try and hit new high notes. My record right now is High D, which you can see below.

I’ve made a little bit of progress in Earthbound, I’m past Saturn Valley and starting up the next arc of my journey. Enter the Gungeon had a huge update so I started playing it again for the first time in a few months. The new content is definitely enough to warrant picking it up. On the Nintendo Switch eShop it’s 50% off right now, and I’d say it’s totally worth it.

That’s all the time I have for today, thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this post.

See you next post! (Retiring the Bai?)

Free Lunch #67

Hello there you inklings of thought. Today is Tuesday which means it’s time for another Free Lunch! If you don’t know what Free Lunch is, I just type for five minutes about whatever I want to talk about. It’s allegedly posted twice a week, but that hasn’t really been happening for the last few months.

Starting at 2:05.

As I think I’ve said a lot of times before, there’s no real reason for me not posting for these long stretches of time. I just don’t do it. I suppose I would just rather do something else a lot of the time.

On the Piano, I’m learning Gymnopédie No. 1 by Eric Satie, which has influenced me for a long time. I’m not quite sure where I first heard it, but I’m pretty sure this song has been around me for a while. I never really realized until recently but one of the reasons it probably feels so close to me is because of how much it touched the Minecraft music. Some of my favorite songs on Volume Alpha seem heavily influenced by this one ambient piano piece. One of the songs I’ve been working on composing for a while has been mistaken for a Minecraft song by a lot of my friends because of how it’s similar in form. I think that Gymnopédie No. 1 has been indirectly inspiring me through the form of a video game that I started playing around 2013.

In slightly more embarrassing news that also has to do with Minecraft, I was playing on a Pokémon server the other day when the Youtuber PopularMMOs was on and got a shout-out to like 15 million subscribers. Here’s a link that starts around when he said my name.

The high E string of my guitar snapped and I haven’t been able to get it fixed yet, so there hasn’t been much progress made on my Smiles and Tears/Home arrangement.

I’ve gone way over the time limit that I normally set for myself, but I’m going to stop writing now.

Free Lunch #65

Hello there you cardboard cats. I wish I could give you a good reason for why I haven’t been posting, but all I can tell you is that I was burned out and lacked the motivation. I’m posting now because a song reminded me of sitting on the bus, listening to piano music and writing Free Lunch. So that’s what I’m doing now. If you don’t know what Free Lunch is, I just type for five minutes about whatever I feel like writing about.

Starting at 4:52.

I’d like to start off by apologizing for not posting all the neat stuff we had planned for this year or posting at all. However, in the mean time a lot has happened. I’ve gotten noticeably better at all of my instruments except Piano, which is difficult to find the time to practice for. Tomorrow I have a Trumpet audition that determines my placement at my high school next year. I’m hoping for Wind Ensemble, but that’s kind of a long shot. The piece I’m playing is pretty difficult, but I’ve got all my scales down. I’m really hoping the sightreading parts aren’t too trying.

I’ve been playing a lot of Super Smash Bros recently on my 2DS with my friends. I’m about second best in the group, and I’m maining Sonic and Toon Link. I’m also a bit into Earthbound, and I’m learning Smiles and Tears on the Guitar.

That’s all the writing I have time for, so thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this post! And thanks to Victoria and mr. bubbles for continuing to post in my absence. And thanks to you readers for sticking around!

Free Lunch #62

Hello there you chilling cartridges! If you don’t know what a Free Lunch is, I just get on either my laptop or phone and type for five minutes without stopping. It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted, and regardless of how much has happened since then, in usual fashion I’m still probably run out of things to say.

Starting at 7:45.

Today I had my first job interview, and I think I have a good chance of getting the job. I’m trying out for the supermarket that my step-dad works for, so unless I royally screw up on the first day, I’ll probably be able to adapt and integrate it into my lifestyle. I’ll be working on Bagging, so I need to practice my social skills a bit before I start, as I am expected to interact with every customer near me.

In musical news, I really haven’t done much composing recently. I’m learning Great Fairy Fountain on Guitar, and practicing Megalovania for Trumpet (as usual), but I seem to have left the Piano behind. I’m going to try to start playing it again every day, because the reason I’m not playing as much is less of me not wanting to, and more of me forgetting about it. I’ve screwed around with some lyrics as well, but I haven’t really found anything that strikes a chord with me (PUN INTENDED) recently. Wouldn’t it be a disappointing career if I released one emo song and then never wrote again? I think it would be, so I’m making an effort to try and write something every day, even if it’s short or bad. If I don’t practice writing, I’ll never improve.

I’m out of time for today, so thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this post! I’m going to attempt posting regularly again, I’m really sorry about Throwback Week not happening on time. Consider it rescheduled, for a surprise date!

Having Lived (from To The Moon)

Hello there you minions boi’s!

Today, the sequel to one of my favorite games “To The Moon” came out, so in celebration, I decided to record a piano cover of one of my favorite songs from it. I’ve already bought the next game, I hope it’s just as good!

Here’s the song:

Free Lunch #59 (mostly music edition)

Hello there you extremely difficult pieces of music. Are you able to guess what this Free Lunch will be about? That’s right, music! If you don’t know what Free Lunch is, I just get on either my phone or laptop and write for five minutes and try to form coherent thoughts.

Starting at 8:29.

All of the things coming up that i’m excited about involve music in some way or another. Tomorrow i’m writing a review of my music tastes based on my Spotify Top 100 of 2017. My band concert is next week, and I need to practice a ton. Finding Paradise comes out December 14th, the same day as my rendition of Having Lived from the previous game in the series. I’m going to try and play Megalovania in an ensemble with my friends in the spring. I’ve got music on the brain.

Aside from that, I recently read a post by Legendary randomness that got me into a new band, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. I really like their album “Paper Maché Dream Balloon”, and aside from that a few songs from other albums. I’m not the biggest fan of most of their music, but they really struck a chord with me on some of it.

Outside of musical stuff, I also had my Math Practice End of Course today, and while I was able to do okay, I think I need to look up how to do some stuff online before the real one.

That’s all the time I have for today, thanks for reading all the way to the bottom of the post!

Free Lunch #57

Hello there you moving castles. Today is Friday, and that means it’s time for another Free Lunch! If you don’t know what a Free Lunch is, I just get on either my laptop or phone and type for five minutes without stopping about my life and related subjects.

Starting at 10:19.

How was your Thanksgiving? Mine went pretty well; I had all the usual Thanksgiving foods, as well as a really good desert thing that my mom, brother, and sister made. I’m sorry for everyone reading that isn’t an American for two posts out of the last three that have relatable American things ssc. (Thanksgiving and  Saving Net Neutrality).

Recently I’ve really been trying to finish Having Lived, and as of now I only have a few more measures to memorize, and then I’ll be set. It was recently announced that the sequel to the original game, Finding Paradise, will be coming out December 14th. So I’ll try to release the song on that date!

I don’t really have any other news right now, other than that there won’t be a book review this week due to lots of schoolwork. Most of it isn’t even the schoolwork’s fault, just me managing my time poorly and not allocating time to read the book I chose. The review will definitely be out next Saturday though, so you can look forward to that! I also had this idea of making a seasonal series. I could make some kind of post that I only make in a certain season. That way I could have some crazy time to prepare each post to make it perfect. If you guys have any suggestions for series that might take a long time to produce, leave them in the comments below! Any ideas at all are greatly appreciated!

My time is up, so thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this post! If you will; fill out this short survey?

I’ll see you next Tuesday for Free Lunch #58!

Free Lunch #55

Hello there you gigabits. It’s Friday, so that means it’s time for another Free Lunch! If you don’t know what that is, I just get on either my laptop or phone, try to write for five minutes without taking any breaks, and attempt to write a legible post.  Starting at 10:11.

Let’s do this in chronological order, but with my apology for not posting first. I’m sorry for not posting this week, I really was flooded with school work that I was supposed to have finished by today. Luckily, I finished all of it, but because I was working on the work at home, I didn’t have time to write any posts over the course of the week. I also haven’t finished tomorrow’s book review yet, but my plan is to finish writing it at the Library tomorrow.

I’ve been trying to write a Guitar solo for a few weeks in my off-time as well, and I’m having some trouble with the solo doing cool solo things but then coherently returning to the original melody. I was also thinking I could make some cool kinda jazz piano-guitar combo later? Another cool music thing coming soon; I’m going to try and release my Having Lived cover from the game To The Moon on the day its sequel comes out. Hopefully, I do the song justice.

I also just watched the first three episodes of Gravity Falls, because it’s been recommended to me by so many friends. Watching it, I can already tell the collaboration with Rick and Morty in Season 4 is going to be awesome. If there isn’t a collab after all that hinting in the 4th season teaser I’m really going to be disappointed.

That’s about all I have left to say for right now, so I’m just going to write this filler sentence as long as possible until I get to 10:16.

Thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this post!

Free Lunch #54

Hello there you rainbow monkeys. Today is Tuesday which means it’s time for another Free Lunch. If you don’t know what that is, I just get on either my phone or laptop and type for 5 minutes legibly without stopping.  I’m on my laptop this time so it will probably be a little bit longer than last time.

Starting at 9:07.

In the last few days I haven’t really been working on much, save an interesting intro I made for Megalovania and a guitar riff. I also realized that I need to buckle down and finish learning Having Lived if I want to be able to release it the day that Finding Paradise comes out. It’s supposed to be near the end of the year, so I have quite a bit of time, but all the time in the world makes no difference if I don’t practice. I’m going to ask my talented friend to help me with it tomorrow morning.

If you didn’t know, a remix of a song I made came out yesterday and you can listen to it here, thanks in advance.

Right now I’m listening to a CD titled Romantic Symphonies. I got it at Goodwill and it’s a pretty good soundtrack for studying and writing stuff.

In other news, I’m really excited because it seems like I’m going to get a Nintendo Switch for Christmas from the same friend who I’m going to request help from tomorrow. This is big because Nintendo Switches are super cool and I’ll get to play Super Mario Odyssey.

Be on the lookout for a post by Jamie in the next few days, a review of Thor Ragnarok. I don’t really have much else to say and I still have a whole minute left to type. I was reading an interesting limerick on Twitter earlier today, I’ll link it here so you can read it and I don’t have to keep writing.

Thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this Free Lunch, I’ll see you in the next one!
