Free Lunch

Free Lunch #73

Hello there you subspace sine waves. Today is Sunday, which means this post is out a whole day later than it should’ve been. I just completely forgot to write this yesterday, sorry.

I’ve gotten a lot better at soloing on basic blues changes with my Trumpet, but I still need to work on some lines so it doesn’t all sound like random bloops that are in key. I’m going to be getting a pretty good microphone soon and I’ll be able to incorporate better sounding real instruments into my music. Up until now, I’ve just been using my terrible laptop microphone, but that changes soon!

Nothing too exciting has been going on in my life recently, just basically getting by and doing what I like to do. I have been generally happy with things. I enjoy practicing my instruments, being at school, and playing video games with my friends after school. I haven’t been working too much on my compositions recently aside from the jazz waltz that I made in a week (which was not particularly good). I’m going to try to work on them at least 2 hours every week in hopes of finishing a few of them sometime this year. I’ve been working on one of them for more than a year now…

In other news, an Undertale spinoff called Deltarune was released by Toby Fox. I played about the first hour of it, and I think it’s pretty good. The combat system mixes the bullet hell mechanic with that of a traditional RPG. Magic was added, as well as an improved menu. I like the music a lot, it’s typically on par with that of Undertale’s.

That’s all I have to say for today, thanks for reading all the way down to the very bottom of this post!

Free Lunch #67

Hello there you inklings of thought. Today is Tuesday which means it’s time for another Free Lunch! If you don’t know what Free Lunch is, I just type for five minutes about whatever I want to talk about. It’s allegedly posted twice a week, but that hasn’t really been happening for the last few months.

Starting at 2:05.

As I think I’ve said a lot of times before, there’s no real reason for me not posting for these long stretches of time. I just don’t do it. I suppose I would just rather do something else a lot of the time.

On the Piano, I’m learning Gymnopédie No. 1 by Eric Satie, which has influenced me for a long time. I’m not quite sure where I first heard it, but I’m pretty sure this song has been around me for a while. I never really realized until recently but one of the reasons it probably feels so close to me is because of how much it touched the Minecraft music. Some of my favorite songs on Volume Alpha seem heavily influenced by this one ambient piano piece. One of the songs I’ve been working on composing for a while has been mistaken for a Minecraft song by a lot of my friends because of how it’s similar in form. I think that Gymnopédie No. 1 has been indirectly inspiring me through the form of a video game that I started playing around 2013.

In slightly more embarrassing news that also has to do with Minecraft, I was playing on a Pokémon server the other day when the Youtuber PopularMMOs was on and got a shout-out to like 15 million subscribers. Here’s a link that starts around when he said my name.

The high E string of my guitar snapped and I haven’t been able to get it fixed yet, so there hasn’t been much progress made on my Smiles and Tears/Home arrangement.

I’ve gone way over the time limit that I normally set for myself, but I’m going to stop writing now.

Thanks for reading all the way down to the very bottom of this post, I’ll see you in the next one!

Free Lunch #59 (mostly music edition)

Hello there you extremely difficult pieces of music. Are you able to guess what this Free Lunch will be about? That’s right, music! If you don’t know what Free Lunch is, I just get on either my phone or laptop and write for five minutes and try to form coherent thoughts.

Starting at 8:29.

All of the things coming up that i’m excited about involve music in some way or another. Tomorrow i’m writing a review of my music tastes based on my Spotify Top 100 of 2017. My band concert is next week, and I need to practice a ton. Finding Paradise comes out December 14th, the same day as my rendition of Having Lived from the previous game in the series. I’m going to try and play Megalovania in an ensemble with my friends in the spring. I’ve got music on the brain.

Aside from that, I recently read a post by Legendary randomness that got me into a new band, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. I really like their album “Paper Maché Dream Balloon”, and aside from that a few songs from other albums. I’m not the biggest fan of most of their music, but they really struck a chord with me on some of it.

Outside of musical stuff, I also had my Math Practice End of Course today, and while I was able to do okay, I think I need to look up how to do some stuff online before the real one.

That’s all the time I have for today, thanks for reading all the way to the bottom of the post!

Undertale No Food #5

Hello there you shameless self-promos! It’s time for a very special post, another Undertale No Food. These only come out every couple months, take a lot of work to write, and are received relatively averagely, so I hope someone out there still likes these. If you want to actually understand the story and what’s happened up to this point, I encourage you to read these posts as well.

Today I’ll be trekking through most of Waterfall on my adventure to escape the Underground!

Starting off where I last saved, I talk to Sans and he invites me to go to Grillby’s. I oblige and find myself in a zoomed-in conversation with him.

I agree and trek back to Waterfall. I walked through multiple rooms and came across a hidden camera in a waterfall (not the area, actual waterfalls).

I keep walking and find myself in a room with lots of space to hide in. It also looks pretty cool.

Halfway through, I stop though because, above me, Papyrus is having a one-sided conversation with someone in lots of armor.

Once both of them have left, I continue through the bushes and am confronted by Monster Kid, an avid fan of Undyne (the armored figure). I forgot to take a screenshot of this, sorry.

In the next room, there’s a puzzle with lilypads that’s pretty interesting.

On my way out, I encounter Aaron!

I dodge most of his attacks and spare him.

In the next room, I find myself with a more interesting application of the lilypad puzzle.

After making my way across the bridge, I get a call from Papyrus about a tutu I picked up earlier.

After that odd phone call, I walk into the next room and read all of this lore.

I walk into the next room, with my shadow dripping onto the floor.

All of a sudden, FWOOSH!

Undyne is back, and this time I don’t have a bush to hide in!

So I walk as fast as the game lets me…

Sustaining minimum damage, I make it into a room of weird bushes for me to hide in. But Undyne follows me anyways!

Luckily she picks up Monster Kid (pictured above) instead of me, and I live.

Both I and Monster Kid walk out of the bushes.

As I enter the next room, Monster Kid doesn’t follow me.

*a few moments later*

Continuing through the caverns, I get another call from Papyrus.

He hung up, and I decided I wouldn’t change my clothes. In the next room, I found one more lore sign.

In the next room, I encounter a friendly octopus who doesn’t have enough water to live comfortably.

They talk for a little bit about how all of their friends moved to an aquarium in a big city because the water where they all used to live is draining.

In the next room, I find, surprise, more lore signs.

Continuing on my way, I find a little statue that’s getting rained on and give it an umbrella.

It starts to hum out a tune, and on a piano in the other room, I play the song and a door opens in the wall.

I try to take the artifact, but my inventory is suddenly mysteriously filled with dogs.

I try to “use” one of the dogs, but it absorbs the artifact and flies away.

I keep walking on the main path and take this pretty cool shot.

A few seconds of walking more, and I stumble into Monster Kid again.

He starts to follow me.

A few seconds of silence pass.

We keep walking and find a really nice view of the castle in the next room.

We soon encounter a ledge that’s too high for either of us to make it on our own, so he volunteers to let me use his shoulders.

I keep going like he said and…

In the next room, I used the savepoint and called it a day.

Free Lunch

Free Lunch #54

Hello there you rainbow monkeys. Today is Tuesday which means it’s time for another Free Lunch. If you don’t know what that is, I just get on either my phone or laptop and type for 5 minutes legibly without stopping.  I’m on my laptop this time so it will probably be a little bit longer than last time.

Starting at 9:07.

In the last few days I haven’t really been working on much, save an interesting intro I made for Megalovania and a guitar riff. I also realized that I need to buckle down and finish learning Having Lived if I want to be able to release it the day that Finding Paradise comes out. It’s supposed to be near the end of the year, so I have quite a bit of time, but all the time in the world makes no difference if I don’t practice. I’m going to ask my talented friend to help me with it tomorrow morning.

If you didn’t know, a remix of a song I made came out yesterday and you can listen to it here, thanks in advance.

Right now I’m listening to a CD titled Romantic Symphonies. I got it at Goodwill and it’s a pretty good soundtrack for studying and writing stuff.

In other news, I’m really excited because it seems like I’m going to get a Nintendo Switch for Christmas from the same friend who I’m going to request help from tomorrow. This is big because Nintendo Switches are super cool and I’ll get to play Super Mario Odyssey.

Be on the lookout for a post by Jamie in the next few days, a review of Thor Ragnarok. I don’t really have much else to say and I still have a whole minute left to type. I was reading an interesting limerick on Twitter earlier today, I’ll link it here so you can read it and I don’t have to keep writing.

Thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this Free Lunch, I’ll see you in the next one!

Free Lunch #48 (more more edition)

Hello there you awesome smelling pizzahaired chaps! (Hello there you submitted by faraztunezhaidr.) It’s Friday which means it’s time for another Free Lunch! If you don’t know what that means, I just type for 5 minutes on either my phone or laptop. This time it’s my phone, so this will be pretty short.

Starting at 10:31.

Not much has happened since Wednesday. Luckily I managed to finish all of the school work that was due on Thursday, and as of now, all of my grades are a-ok. I haven’t been working much on composing lately, but I hope to turn that around soon. Tomorrow i’m going downtown with my family and we’re going to eat pizza and walk around. On Sunday i’m going to my friend’s second birthday party. The first was last week, and we went a bunch of cool places (bowling, arcade, escape room). This time we’re just going to go to his house and eat cake and play video games probably.

Also, the next Undertale Free Lunch will be out within the next few weeks. Probably. If it isn’t then remind me if you actually want it.

I also want to take a moment to address all the inactive authors. I don’t know if anyone but me is ever going to post again. Jamie says he has nothing to say. No word from Maz or Jordan, and Victoria is still doing her treatment I think. I’m not sure if this is going to change anytime soon.

That’s the end of this Free Lunch.

Thanks for reading it.

Free Lunch

Free Lunch #47 (almost there edition)

Hello there you Pirates of the Pancreas. Today it’s Tuesday which means it’s time for a Free Lunch! If you don’t know what that means, I just type for five minutes on either my laptop or phone trying not to stop.

Starting at 7:08.

The reason there hasn’t been as many good posts recently is because i’ve been pretty swamped in schoolwork. It’s mostly stuff that I should have already finished, but didn’t because I was being lazy. That’s all come back to bite me now as everything is due on Thursday, the last day before fall break. I wouldn’t expect another post from me until Friday for the Free Lunch, sorry.

Anyways on to the usual discussion topics, recently i’ve been working on a couple different ideas for piano songs that could branch off into their own full song. Most of them are about thirty seconds long and are kind of boring, but i’m sure i’ll find one that interests me. On Guitar, i’m practicing my Pentatonic Blues Scale and it’s pretty fun. I think i’m going to try and make my own solo later using that, but not anytime soon. In Trumpet news, in class we have just been working on making sure that we are able to correctly play stuff and comprehend rhythms, so we aren’t practicing any pieces, which is disappointing. I am still working on Megalovania for the Trumpet though, and it’s still a huge challenge… but one day I will conquer it.

I don’t really have much else to say to you, except I started watching a new show today indicated by the Hello There You.

Thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this kind of boring post. I promise that this Saturday you’ve got a pretty good book review coming, so hold on for that!

Free Lunch #37 (“Happy” Fish Edition)

Hello there you happy fish. I want you to know that this is the one of the first few image results for “happy fish”.

I guess he does look happy. But more like a forced happy, like the kind that clowns at birthday parties have to put on to amuse the children. Anyways, back to Free Lunch. It’s been a really long time (2+ weeks) since I’ve posted a Free Lunch, but we’re back now! If you don’t know what Free Lunch is, basically, I just sit down with a device for 5 minutes and write as much as I can before I am out of time.

I’ll be starting at 5:31.

Now it begins. What begins, you might ask? If you did ask, I would be inclined to tell you that it’s Free Lunch. You already knew that, this was just filler. MWHAHAHA.

In meaningful or at least slightly thought poking news, we didn’t have too much work in our classes today. This was very welcome, as I was able to accomplish absolutely nothing in the free time I had for finishing early. Literally all I did was write the introduction to this post (fish and all), leave it, and play Santale and Bad Time Simulator for the rest of the time.

We still don’t have a band teacher, and the substitute got angry at me for correcting her. Ever since she was hired she’s been trying to get us to do non-band stuff in band. She had wanted us to write Haikus, and put that Haikus were 7-5-7 syllables…

I can’t wait until she’s gone. Though she did redeem herself slightly by letting me play Trumpet in the back room, I still don’t like her very much.

My time is up for this Free Lunch. I’m sorry that it was a little on the short side, but hopefully it retained your attention nonetheless.

Thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this post :1

Free Lunch #32

Hello there you online mp3 files. It’s Friday so that means it’s time for another edition of Free Lunch! If you don’t know what that means, luckily for you, you have me to explain it to you. It’s actually pretty boring. I just get on my phone or laptop (laptop today) and try to write for 5 minutes without stopping.

Starting at 5:35.

I have been working a lot on music the last few days (which you can listen to here 😀 😀 😀 pls), and I’ve realized that I have almost everything I need to record anything. Jamie has a microphone that I would hope that he’d let the band use for recording the album, we both have acoustic Guitars, even if mine sucks. We both have keyboards —

*got a phone call and had to talk so i’m restarting at 5:40*

Before I was interrupted, I was talking about how despite my own belief, we actually have almost everything we need to record the album. The only thing I can think of is an Electric Guitar, which would be awesome, but isn’t a necessity. So the album should still be out later this Winter.

In other musical news, (sorry non-musical people, you’ll just have to wait) we’re putting out another short collection of songs on the old account, which is now named “Team RSB” on Soundcloud. It’s mostly just weird experimental made by me mixed in with nice 8 bit music made on iDARB by Brendan and Saoirse. It’s okay, and it should be out tomorrow or the next day, so i’ll leave a link in whichever day’s corresponding post.

Aside from that, I can’t decide which game to play next. I finished To The Moon and it was pretty amazing. Definitely makes one of my top 5 games i’ve ever played. So help me pick a game to play now! Here’s a nice poll to choose the next game I play!

In my life, not much is happening, aside from the paid audio editing work i’m going to be doing for my mom’s project with the city. I may be going to Oak Ridge soon again, so i’ll be able to make another Undertale No Food.  I also recently got into Big Bang Theory and it’s pretty funny.

My time is up, it’s 5:45.

Thanks for reading this post that should be slightly longer than the usual Free Lunch :3

Undertale No Food #4

Hello there you blankets of blasphemous bats. Today, it is time for our monthly post for Undertale No Food. Because they are so far apart, if you actually want to understand the story, and what’s happening in this episode, you should probably see the previous ones.

Undertale No Food #1

Undertale No Food #2

Undertale No Food #3

This post is going to be a little bit longer than the usual posts you will see on this blog, so if you read the whole thing, thank you 😀

It’s time.

I return to the world, only to be greeted by an assortment of innocent snow puffs spread across the ground.

But wait!? This snow puff has a tail??

And a head?!?!

Why, it’s no snow puff here, but a nice little puppy.

Success comes easily, and I make peace with the pupper.

Continuing walking, I step onto a rickety wooden bridge. While crossing, nervous of the seemingly 1,000 foot drop below me, I encounter some familiar faces.

Papyrus tells me that he will soon activate all of these maniacal devices and destroy me!

Fortunately for us, he decides that he doesn’t want to best me using such an unfair method.

Papyrus then walks off screen to the right, and Sans stays to tell me that I should get used to “blue attacks”.

I follow in the great Papyrus’s footsteps, and find myself in Snowdin!

Walking forwards, I find a save point to rejuvenate myself at.

I then have a nice encounter with Monster Kid, with him assuming I am a kid because of my striped shirt xD

Past Grillby’s, I trot into the local librarby. Yes, librarby..

As the library is just a pit-stop, I continue right, leaving footsteps in the freshly-fallen snow behind me.

I walk past a very nicely decorated house, with a pirate flag on top, and two very different mailboxes. Papyrus and Sans have a truly wonderful home.

Continuing walking, (which seems to be the main gameplay feature sometimes)

The screen starts to freeze??

I encounter my old chum Papyrus as the screen continues to get colder, and he seriously considers letting me go instead of capturing me. But then! (Top 10 Anime Plot Twists)

And the battle begins.

Little note before you watch, this battle did take me multiple tries to beat with food, so you get to watch the 4th rematch. In the first match, I flirted with him and we made plans to go on a date, but then he was too concentrated on fighting on every battle after that to talk to me much about it.

Papyrus eventually realizes that it is futile for me to continue trying, and so he spares me! Then he honors me greatly by allowing me to be his friend.

He goes into a bit of monologue that is actually important to the story so pay attention people!

He tells me that I must continue walking through this cavern, and when I reach the barrier.. well, i’ll just let him explain.

No one can cross the barrier..

Papyrus then *literally* flies away, back towards his pirate flagged house.

I traipse a little bit further, and encounter a new area, Waterfall.

I didn’t talk to any of the characters in this room yet, I just bee lined for today’s final savepoint.

And that’s the end for this month’s Undertale No Food. I really did put a TON of work *relatively* into this post (more than 2 hours spent overall playing, uploading videos, and writing). So I would appreciate if I could get to close to 8 likes?

Also, replacing Dictionary Taboo in the Undertale No Food series for now on, we have Undertale Question For You!
