New EP – Oak Ridge 2 (I miss you)

Hey guys! A few months ago I downloaded the digital audio workstation FL Studio, and these songs are the first batch of likely many. I would appreciate it a lot if you all could listen and give feedback. These tracks are a lot more polished than the last EP I put out, so I think these guys are much more worthy of your support.

Free Lunch

Free Lunch #73

Hello there you subspace sine waves. Today is Sunday, which means this post is out a whole day later than it should’ve been. I just completely forgot to write this yesterday, sorry.

I’ve gotten a lot better at soloing on basic blues changes with my Trumpet, but I still need to work on some lines so it doesn’t all sound like random bloops that are in key. I’m going to be getting a pretty good microphone soon and I’ll be able to incorporate better sounding real instruments into my music. Up until now, I’ve just been using my terrible laptop microphone, but that changes soon!

Nothing too exciting has been going on in my life recently, just basically getting by and doing what I like to do. I have been generally happy with things. I enjoy practicing my instruments, being at school, and playing video games with my friends after school. I haven’t been working too much on my compositions recently aside from the jazz waltz that I made in a week (which was not particularly good). I’m going to try to work on them at least 2 hours every week in hopes of finishing a few of them sometime this year. I’ve been working on one of them for more than a year now…

In other news, an Undertale spinoff called Deltarune was released by Toby Fox. I played about the first hour of it, and I think it’s pretty good. The combat system mixes the bullet hell mechanic with that of a traditional RPG. Magic was added, as well as an improved menu. I like the music a lot, it’s typically on par with that of Undertale’s.

That’s all I have to say for today, thanks for reading all the way down to the very bottom of this post!

Free Lunch

Free Lunch #72 (‘Probably The Last Special Edition Until 100’ Edition!)

Hello there you peaceful piano plinks. Today is Wednesday which means thanks to the schedule changes it’s time for another Free Lunch! If you don’t know what Free Lunch is, I just type for five minutes about whatever I have going on in my life, or really whatever I want to talk about.

Since the last Free Lunch I came back to school from fall break, and so far things haven’t been too bad. The teachers seem to be wise enough to slowly wean us back on to the workload instead of putting us right back into the fray. I don’t know how much longer this will last, but right now I’m in a golden zone where I can finish all of my homework at school, and practice music/play video games at home.

Speaking of practicing music, I’ve been using Musescore as a replacement for a D.A.W. (Digital Audio Workstation) while working on some electronic music, and I think it does a pretty good job. I don’t think I’ll post any of the songs on Soundcloud until I finish a good amount of them and learn more about the program. I might ask some of you for individual feedback on the songs before I release them, but that’s news for another day. I’ve got two songs finished right now, one called Rubber Trees and one called Chamomile Chameleon. I’m working on the You Make a Song thing, and I’ve got about 30 seconds done so far. You’ll find out what you all voted for once the song is released next Tuesday!

In my Jazz Combos club at school, I’ve gotten better at staying within the style of music I’m in while improvising. So, for example, I won’t randomly add in licks that conflict with what I set up as the idea before just because I feel like it. I think I’m a lot better at it than I was when I started.

That’s all the time I have for today, see you on Saturday I guess.

Thanks for reading all the way down to the very bottom of this post!

Ouch

I think I’m going to have a particularly rough start to the school year. Not only did I not even get close to finishing my summer reading assignments, but I have just now accidentally cut my thumb in a way that will stop me from comfortably holding a pencil, playing guitar and video games, and snapping. I also need to wake up at 6:00 AM tomorrow morning so that I can catch the bus to school. I’m sure I’ll be fine but these are some discouraging signs. (The summer reading thing was basically just me being lazy all summer though.)

Thanks for reading this short post which will act as a precursor for tomorrow’s Free Lunch.

Cya later!

the dangerous sims mobile

*you hear a repetitive tapping motion, and enthusiastic gibberish words. you stare at a door, wondering what is behind it, as it hasn’t been opened in many hours…*

hey hey!

i’m going to talk about some games, but if you don’t like them, stay tuned for talk about music. thanks for reading!

so, i haven’t been super productive recently besides wishing for the arrival of summer, since this school year is very close to finishing. i’m especially thrilled, because later this year will be my first year of high school.

all this free time (i say this having a project due in 3 days that i haven’t started) has left me pondering around with games, since i didn’t really have any of them on my phone that i committed to. they were only small pastimes, like “hopscotch”, “splix.io” (which never works??), and “stack”. they aren’t super exciting and i use them to ease boredom.

one of my friends had this game called “The Sims Mobile” on her ipad. i had spent most of my time playing “five night’s a freddy’s” (oof so 2014) on another friend’s ipad, but was far too lazy to buy the game for myself. therefore, i decided to try the sims on my phone. after all, it was free, and i always wanted to play a sims game.

i can’t decide if it was a huge mistake or a huge blessing.

the weekend i downloaded it, it was all i did. i mean, besides eat and drink and practice some violin, i was on my phone using up all my sims’ energy which caused me to get frustrated because i couldn’t play the game the entire time.

(questionnaire: what’s your favorite game to play? comment below if you want.)

i don’t know about you, but i really like this game. i have always liked the concept of the sims, with going to work, building a house and such, although obviously it is very unrealistic. this version of the game does not offer anywhere near as much as the modern computer versions. i can’t be specific because i have never played it anywhere else, however i can say that there are definitely less hobby and career options, as well as furniture. you also can’t build a second floor to your house, which i hope they update soon.

a more important note to add would be that your sim does not have any needs or emotions, which is a bummer. your sim doesn’t have to eat, go to the bathroom, or sleep. any of those things are completely voluntary.

besides all of those cons, i still think it is very entertaining and am contemplating getting the real game. admittedly, it takes up most of my time, but i refuse to say i am addicted.

/ cool songs /

 nightclub love – matt maltese

i really like this song. the vibe is very nightclub-by, hence the name. it’s a very pretty slow song, and the way he sung it is hypnotic. there is something old sounding about his voice, which i don’t really know how to describe really. i suppose it’s kind of 20s style, but with much better audio.

robbers – the 1975

i’m honestly down to anything of the 1975 right now, which is funny considering i didn’t like them a while ago. they are all bops. songs like this make me want to sit in the dark in my bedroom in the early hours of the morning. due to increased activity of their instagram, i am very excited for a possible new album release.

cut your bangs – girlpool

this song is very calming, but does make me sad. nonetheless, a good song.

new releases

panic! at the disco released a couple new singles and so did ariana grande which is pretty cool, not to mention matt maltese’s stuff is new (and awesome) too. it’s been a really good year for music so far, but i’m still bitter about the fact that one of my favorite singers (if not my favorite??? dodie i’m looking at you hon) is coming to my city and tickets sold out too fast for me to get. oh well.

that’s all i have for today, folks.

i hope you enjoyed this post! if you have anything you want to see from me, drop a comment, because i don’t have much to post about these days. if you made it all the way down here, thank you!

au revoir ~

Free Lunch #61 (Nintendo Switch Edition!)

Hello there you congratulatory glass shards. Today is Tuesday, which means it’s time for another Free Lunch! If you don’t know what Free Lunch is, I just get on either my laptop or phone and try to type for five minutes without stopping. I’m on my laptop today so the post will be slightly longer than usual. I’m a tad late, but that’s only because I’ve been playing video games all day!

Starting at 9:44.

As you may have deduced already, I got a Nintendo Switch yesterday! I had previously received Mario Kart and Super Mario Odyssey (thanks again!), so I was able to get a headstart on collecting all the Power Moons. At the time of writing, I have about 70 collected in my co-op game with Saoirse, and Brendan has about 40. I’m going to try and get every Power Moon and make it to the Darker Side of the Moon in Super Mario Odyssey. I ordered the new Legend of Zelda game, Breath of the Wild on Amazon, and it should arrive from December 28th to January 3rd. I head back to school on the 3rd, so I’m really hoping that it gets here sooner rather than later so I can have some time to really check out the game. I think I’ve really gotten some inspiration from all these great video game songs, so be on the lookout for a new song in the near future!

I also got this really cool light-up potion from my uncle on Christmas Eve!

I’m out of time, so thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this post!

Having Lived (from To The Moon)

Hello there you minions boi’s!

Today, the sequel to one of my favorite games “To The Moon” came out, so in celebration, I decided to record a piano cover of one of my favorite songs from it. I’ve already bought the next game, I hope it’s just as good!

Here’s the song:

Free Lunch

Free Lunch #57

Hello there you moving castles. Today is Friday, and that means it’s time for another Free Lunch! If you don’t know what a Free Lunch is, I just get on either my laptop or phone and type for five minutes without stopping about my life and related subjects.

Starting at 10:19.

How was your Thanksgiving? Mine went pretty well; I had all the usual Thanksgiving foods, as well as a really good desert thing that my mom, brother, and sister made. I’m sorry for everyone reading that isn’t an American for two posts out of the last three that have relatable American things ssc. (Thanksgiving and  Saving Net Neutrality).

Recently I’ve really been trying to finish Having Lived, and as of now I only have a few more measures to memorize, and then I’ll be set. It was recently announced that the sequel to the original game, Finding Paradise, will be coming out December 14th. So I’ll try to release the song on that date!

I don’t really have any other news right now, other than that there won’t be a book review this week due to lots of schoolwork. Most of it isn’t even the schoolwork’s fault, just me managing my time poorly and not allocating time to read the book I chose. The review will definitely be out next Saturday though, so you can look forward to that! I also had this idea of making a seasonal series. I could make some kind of post that I only make in a certain season. That way I could have some crazy time to prepare each post to make it perfect. If you guys have any suggestions for series that might take a long time to produce, leave them in the comments below! Any ideas at all are greatly appreciated!

My time is up, so thanks for reading all the way down to the bottom of this post! If you will; fill out this short survey?

I’ll see you next Tuesday for Free Lunch #58!

Undertale No Food #5

Hello there you shameless self-promos! It’s time for a very special post, another Undertale No Food. These only come out every couple months, take a lot of work to write, and are received relatively averagely, so I hope someone out there still likes these. If you want to actually understand the story and what’s happened up to this point, I encourage you to read these posts as well.

Undertale No Food #1

Undertale No Food #2

Undertale No Food #3

Undertale No Food #4

Today I’ll be trekking through most of Waterfall on my adventure to escape the Underground!

Starting off where I last saved, I talk to Sans and he invites me to go to Grillby’s. I oblige and find myself in a zoomed-in conversation with him.

I agree and trek back to Waterfall. I walked through multiple rooms and came across a hidden camera in a waterfall (not the area, actual waterfalls).

I keep walking and find myself in a room with lots of space to hide in. It also looks pretty cool.

Halfway through, I stop though because, above me, Papyrus is having a one-sided conversation with someone in lots of armor.

Once both of them have left, I continue through the bushes and am confronted by Monster Kid, an avid fan of Undyne (the armored figure). I forgot to take a screenshot of this, sorry.

In the next room, there’s a puzzle with lilypads that’s pretty interesting.

On my way out, I encounter Aaron!

I dodge most of his attacks and spare him.

In the next room, I find myself with a more interesting application of the lilypad puzzle.

After making my way across the bridge, I get a call from Papyrus about a tutu I picked up earlier.

After that odd phone call, I walk into the next room and read all of this lore.

I walk into the next room, with my shadow dripping onto the floor.

All of a sudden, FWOOSH!

Undyne is back, and this time I don’t have a bush to hide in!

So I walk as fast as the game lets me…

Sustaining minimum damage, I make it into a room of weird bushes for me to hide in. But Undyne follows me anyways!

Luckily she picks up Monster Kid (pictured above) instead of me, and I live.

Both I and Monster Kid walk out of the bushes.

As I enter the next room, Monster Kid doesn’t follow me.

*a few moments later*

Continuing through the caverns, I get another call from Papyrus.

He hung up, and I decided I wouldn’t change my clothes. In the next room, I found one more lore sign.

In the next room, I encounter a friendly octopus who doesn’t have enough water to live comfortably.

They talk for a little bit about how all of their friends moved to an aquarium in a big city because the water where they all used to live is draining.

In the next room, I find, surprise, more lore signs.

Continuing on my way, I find a little statue that’s getting rained on and give it an umbrella.

It starts to hum out a tune, and on a piano in the other room, I play the song and a door opens in the wall.

I try to take the artifact, but my inventory is suddenly mysteriously filled with dogs.

I try to “use” one of the dogs, but it absorbs the artifact and flies away.

I keep walking on the main path and take this pretty cool shot.

A few seconds of walking more, and I stumble into Monster Kid again.

He starts to follow me.

A few seconds of silence pass.

We keep walking and find a really nice view of the castle in the next room.

We soon encounter a ledge that’s too high for either of us to make it on our own, so he volunteers to let me use his shoulders.

I keep going like he said and…

SUDDENLY, MORE LORE.

In the next room, I used the savepoint and called it a day.

Free Lunch #48 (more more edition)

Hello there you awesome smelling pizzahaired chaps! (Hello there you submitted by faraztunezhaidr.) It’s Friday which means it’s time for another Free Lunch! If you don’t know what that means, I just type for 5 minutes on either my phone or laptop. This time it’s my phone, so this will be pretty short.

Starting at 10:31.

Not much has happened since Wednesday. Luckily I managed to finish all of the school work that was due on Thursday, and as of now, all of my grades are a-ok. I haven’t been working much on composing lately, but I hope to turn that around soon. Tomorrow i’m going downtown with my family and we’re going to eat pizza and walk around. On Sunday i’m going to my friend’s second birthday party. The first was last week, and we went a bunch of cool places (bowling, arcade, escape room). This time we’re just going to go to his house and eat cake and play video games probably.

Also, the next Undertale Free Lunch will be out within the next few weeks. Probably. If it isn’t then remind me if you actually want it.

I also want to take a moment to address all the inactive authors. I don’t know if anyone but me is ever going to post again. Jamie says he has nothing to say. No word from Maz or Jordan, and Victoria is still doing her treatment I think. I’m not sure if this is going to change anytime soon.

That’s the end of this Free Lunch.

Thanks for reading it.
